2011 Worldwide Photo Walk

The annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk was held this past weekend. Here in northeast Pennsylvania it rained both days. We were scheduled to walk on Saturday at 5:30pm but it was raining steady. Several brave souls dealt with the inclement weather and walked anyway. We rescheduled for Sunday at the same time, but it was raining even harder! Five of us walked anyway. It was fun, although I sure wish I could predict the weather better.

Thank you for those who participated in this year’s walk. I sure wish we didn’t have all that rain, but it did make for some nice reflections in some of your photographs! Hopefully next year will be sunnier!

Worldwide Photo Walk a Huge Success in East Stroudsburg!

We had a great time on the Photo Walk in East Stroudsburg on Saturday evening!

Yes, it was hot and very humid, but being in the company of fellow photographers left us enjoying the experience rather than the hot weather. It was a great time to take some neat photos, be creative, and discuss photography with each other. I learned a little more about spot metering and really enjoyed being with others who have a passion for photography. It is so cool to hear and see what others are doing. We walked the same route but we did not see the exact same things!

You can view some of our photographs on Flickr.

I knew that spot metering was helpful when a subject is against a light or dark background. But on the Photo Walk I also learned that it can come in very handy as the sun is going down, too. A lot of detail gets washed away because of the contrasting light. Spot metering on the subject, in my case a statue, was just the ticket to retain the detail I was looking for in my subject.

We also discussed doing another photo walk this fall in Jim Thorpe. You can email me for more information about this additional photo walk.

I hope you enjoy seeing the photos from our Photo Walk and I hope you can join us next time!

Worldwide Photo Walk Tonight in East Stroudsburg

There is still room for tonight’s Worldwide Photo Walk so feel free to bring a friend and join in the fun. We will meet at Dansbury Park, near the Pavilion. We will photograph some of the scenes in the park and down by the water then walk through part of East Stroudsburg to East Stroudsburg University. We meet just before 6pm and the walk will be two hours in length. Afterward, you will have the option of meeting at Tony’s Pizzeria in East Stroudsburg where we can compare photos on our LCD screens and talk about our experience.

Come join in the fun!

Only a Little More than a Month Away

Can you guess what is about a month away, will be in nearly every part of the world, and allow photographers an opportunity to spend some quality time together?

That’s right, Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk. Wow, you’re good! This year’s walk is being held on July 24th and I will be leading the Photo Walk in our area again this year. We will meet at Dansbury Park in East Stroudsburg just before 6pm. You can find out more information and sign up here.

I hope you will be able to join us on this year’s Photo Walk, but if you live too far away check out the available Photo Walks in your area. It will be an enjoyable evening for us to spend with fellow photographers. What could be better than a nice summer evening taking photos with your camera and walking alongside others who share you photographic passions?

It’s going to be loads of fun!

More on Social Media

I’ve been posting to this blog for over a year now. WordPress has made blogging very easy for me and I enjoy sharing photographic insights with others. It’s a cool way to connect with others and create dialogue with fellow photographers. It also allows customers and those interested in my photography to stay updated.

This week I also began to Twitter more frequently. I had a Twitter account for some time but did not fully see the potential of this powerful social medium. Now I am posting a daily tweet including a PhotoTip. You can follow me on Twitter to see a new photo tip each day.

I also have a Facebook page that replicates each day’s blog post and displays some photos and upcoming events.

Flickr

I heard about Flickr awhile ago. Other social network media took priority for me and I paid little attention to Flickr. I concentrated mostly on Facebook and really enjoy this way of reaching out to others.

This changed last night. Following our Photo Walk when we were sitting down and talking with one another at Dansbury Depot, the suggestion was raised to create a Flickr page so we could post and share our photos with each other. I like the idea and decided to give it a try. Besides, the others made it sound pretty easy.

So today I created my Flickr profile and was off and running… well walking maybe. It took me a little while but it seemed to work and I actually understood most all of the steps. Then I discovered how to create a group so the participants could post their photos. And guess what? It actually worked!

You can see this Flickr group here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1151175@N20/

Check it out and let us know what you think about the photographs. Are you on Flickr? If not, considering doing so. I can speak from experience that it is not difficult to do and there are many benefits. Hello, Flickr!

Photo Walk a Resounding Success

A big “Thank you” to everyone who participated in tonight’s photo walk. We had beautiful weather, got to take some amazing photographs, and met some really cool fellow photographers. By all counts, everyone had a very enjoyable evening.

Participants started gathering around 5:30 pm in anticipation of the big event and the crowd slowly started to build. Route descriptions and maps were handed out and then we took a group photograph. And with that the photo walk started!

I enjoyed seeing photographers use their creativity in framing shots along the way and I definitely enjoyed the many conversations, too. It was refreshing to witness the camaraderie among the group and I saw a lot of smiling faces. I even followed the eyes or lenses of some photographers to subjects I may have never seen on my own. I also learned and re-learned some photo tips. It was refreshing!

Right at 8 o’clock we began to gather at Dansbury Depot and many of the walkers joined us for a bite to eat or just enjoy the ongoing conversation. It was a great group and I enjoyed talking with each and every participant. It was great!

I want to thank each one of you for participating in tonight’s Photo Walk. I thoroughly enjoyed being your leader and I am very much looking forward to our next Photo Walk!
